Or, Subtitled: When DNA Unearths a Previously Unknown Relative
I’d like to add a few notes now to two postings I made previously (here and here) about an Isaac Lindsey (abt. 1776 – 1833) whose male descendants’ DNA matches that of other males who can trace their ancestry to the immigrant ancestor of my branch of Lindseys, Dennis Linchey. Dennis Linchey arrived in Richmond County, Virginia, early in 1718 as a young indentured servant. Linchey is a variant spelling of the Irish surname Lynch. The Y-DNA of descendants of Dennis Linchey is Irish Type III, the profile of families connected by blood to Brian Boru (941-1014), the early Irish warrior king who collaborated with his kin living along the Shannon River in County Clare to try to prevent incursions by the Vikings into the interior of Ireland. These families kin to Brian Boru are called the Dalcassian families, and they include a Lynch family.
