BEGATS AND BEQUEATHALS

Or, Subtitled: “Lying and being in Wayne County on the Southwest Side of Bever Creek”

In a previous posting here, I discuss the migration of Mark Lindsey, son of Dennis Lindsey (abt. 1755 – 1795) of Spartanburg County, South Carolina, to Wayne County, Kentucky, in 1800. As the posting I’ve just linked indicates, in 1800, Mark moved with his wife Mary Jane Dinsmore and Mary Jane’s mother Margaret and brother John Dinsmore to Kentucky. It appears to me that in making this move, Mark and his Dinsmore in-laws were following Revolutionary soldier George Bruton to Kentucky. Bruton had moved several years earlier to Kentucky and on 17 June 1799, he had a survey for a headright grant on Beaver Creek in what would soon become Wayne County.
