The information I’m posting below supplements and expands on a discussion of the Kentucky land grant that John Dinsmore received after the Dinsmore family moved in 1800 from Spartanburg County, South Carolina, to Wayne County, Kentucky. In a series of postings about the family of David and Margaret Dinsmore which begins with this posting, I tell the interesting story of this young couple who arrived in Charleston, South Carolina, from Ulster aboard the Earl of Donegal on 10 December 1767. The list of ship passengers recorded by the South Carolina Council Journal on 22 December states that David was aged 17 and his wife Margaret 20. I have not found Margaret’s maiden name, nor have I been able to determine precisely where in Northern Ireland the couple lived before heading to the colonies. A number of indicators suggest that they may have lived in or near Ballymoney in Antrim.
