Samuel Kerr (1715-1725 — aft. 1762): Augusta County, Virginia, Records and My Case for His Wife Margaret as a Daughter of William Pickens

Orange County, Virginia, Court Order Bk. 2, p. 218

Or, Subtitled: “John Pickins made an oath that he imported himself Margaret Eleanor Margaret ye younger Gabriel Pickins Wm Baskins from Ireland into Philadelphia & from thence unto this Colony”

In my postings about a branch of the Kerr family of Augusta County, Virginia, that moved to the Long Cane settlement in what would become Abbeville County, South Carolina, I’ve focused on the following: nailing down the identity of the Samuel Kerr who married Mary, daughter of Ezekiel Calhoun and Jane/Jean Ewing, in the Long Cane settlement about 1764; addressing confusion about the William Kerr who was brother of this Samuel; and sorting the two Samuel Kerrs, father and son, who in my view came from Virginia to the Long Cane settlement by 1762. I’ve also tracked the younger Samuel (1741 – abt. 1781) up to his death about 1781. (To read the continuation of this posting, please click the numeral 2 below.)
