4. DeWitt Clinton Birdwell, the fourth child of James G. Birdwell and Aletha Leonard, was born about 1831 in Limestone or Jackson County, Alabama. I have very little information about this son of James G. Birdwell and Aletha Leonard who is named as their child in Hardin Harville’s 2 April 1850 petition to administer the successions of James and Aletha Leonard Birdwell in DeSoto Parish, Louisiana.[1] The birth year I have just stated for him is from the 1850 federal census, in which he was enumerated in the household of his sister Elvira and her husband Samuel Kerr Green in Pointe Coupee Parish.[2] The census gives his name as Clinton and shows him as 19 years of age and born in Alabama.
