In my initial posting starting my series about Griffith James (bef. 1725? – 1795) of Washington County, Maryland, and Pendleton District, South Carolina, I alluded to some things I had previously thought I knew about Griffith’s pre-Maryland origins, including perhaps even the names of his parents. I stated,
Before I undertook this gathering and organizing process, if you’d asked me what I know about Griffith James, I’d have told you confidently that I have a considerable amount of information, and that I was fairly certain I could tell you a lot about his origins, where he came from, who his parents were.
