Moses’ Birth in Augusta (Later Botetourt) County, Virginia, 15 October 1769: Notes on Birdwell Bible

The date of birth of Moses Birdwell, father of James G. Birdwell – 15 October 1769 – is recorded in the register of a bible that is thought to have belonged to his father George Birdwell. Digital images of some of the pages of this bible register, including the one recording Moses’ date of birth, are found in a collection of Birdwell family records copied in 1955 by the Texas DAR.[1] Images of the pages of the entire bible register are also available digitally at the Find a Grave memorial page of George Birdwell.[2] Ray Isbell, who created this memorial page, has uploaded to the page digital images of what appear to be photocopies of the entire bible register. The publication page in the front of the bible shows that it was printed in 1767 in Edinburgh by the authority of the General Assembly of the Kirks of Scotland, with Alexander Kincaid as printer.
