According to Rita Horton McDavid, William Halbert was a lieutenant in Light-Horse Harry Lee’s Virginia Legion during the Revolution. She makes this statement in an article entitled “William Halbert, An Unsung Legend” published in the Independent of Anderson, South Carolina.
