So on to Texas, the final destination in the life journey of Thomas Lewis Leonard and wife Sarah Lauderdale: as the previous posting shows, on 6 May 1839 Thomas and Sarah sold their home tract of 660 acres in Limestone County, Alabama, to his brother John Leonard, and on 20 May, they both proved the deed.[1] It appears that soon after this date Thomas and Sarah moved with a number of their children to Nacogdoches (later Cherokee) County, Texas, where, on 5 September, Thomas made a headright claim at the office of the Nacogdoches County land commission for 320 acres of land (certificate no. 138), a tract granted to him on 3 June 1844.[2]
