John Green and Wife Jane Kerr: New Information Added to Previous Postings (2)

Also in the Lawrence Family Papers in Clemson’s archives is the original renunciation of dower that Jane Kerr Green signed when she and husband John Green sold their 1,345 acres in Pendleton District in May 1818 to Thomas Gates as they moved to Alabama. Jane renounced dower on 28 October 1818, after she and John sold their land to Thomas Gates in May 1818, and it appears to me that the Greens moved to Tuscaloosa (and then Bibb) County, Alabama, soon after she renounced her dower interest in the land. I think that when Thomas Gates then sold some of the land he had bought from John and Jane Kerr Green to Benjamin Lawrence, this renunciation of dower document went from Gates to Lawrence.

I’ve now added this original document to this previous posting.
