John Whitlock and Agnes de la Beche (died 1491)

James Whitlocke, Liber Famelicus of Sir James Whitlocke, etc., ed. John Bruce (London: Camden Society, 1858), pp. 1-2

Or, Subtitled: “My body to be buryed in the Chapell of Saynt Katern in the monastery of Saynt Augustine”

As previous postings have stated (e.g., here) the manor of Beches (often spelled Beaches) at Wokingham in Berkshire, England, passed to William Whitlock (died about 1510) and his descendants from his parents John Whitlock and Agnes de la Beche. The manor had come to John Whitlock from his wife Agnes — hence its name, Beches. My previous posting about William Whitlock’s son Richard (died 1556), who inherited Beches from his father William, cites Sir James Whitlocke’s Liber Famelicus regarding how Beches came to the Whitlock family:[1] noting that his father Richard Whitlock (abt. 1533 – 1570), son of Richard (died 1556) was born “in the ancient seat of the Whitelocks, called Beeches, situate neer Okingham,” Sir James Whitlock writes that Beches “hathe continued in our blud sithence the year of our Lord 1231.”
