Short Addendum to Posting about Elizabeth Burleson, Wife of Charles Wesley Brooks: Valuable Resources

Yesterday’s posting provided a link to the webpage of the Mary Christian Burleson Foundation, where anyone interested can find information about this preservation project and also about Mary and her homestead. The Mary Christian Burleson Foundation also has a Facebook page and a Twitter page, for those who may be interested.

Yesterday’s posting also linked to a document compiled by the Mary Christian Burleson Foundation and presented to the Texas Historical Commission, with valuable information about Mary’s homestead and house and the project to preserve the house. This document, entitled “Mary Christian Burleson Homestead, Elgin, Texas: Historic Structure Report and Preservation Plan,” presents extensive research of historian Cristin Embree about Mary and her house.

One of the sources cited in this document, to which the footnotes of yesterday’s posting refer frequently, is an archival collection called the “Mary Christian Burleson Collection.” This collection is held by the Elgin Depot Archives. These archives are held by the Elgin (Texas) Depot Museum, about which information can be found at the website of the city of Elgin. As that webpage also indicates, The Elgin Depot Museum also has a Facebook page.

Mary Christian Burleson gravestone, see Find a Grave memorial page of Mary Randolph “Polly” Buchanan Christian-Burleson, Bastrop County, Texas, created by Roadrunner, with photo by G Smith; a photo of the original marker, which is very weathered, is also at this site

The webpage of the Bastrop County Historical Commission also provides information about the Elgin Depot Museum and its archives, as well as a report on the dedication (2021) of an historical marker for the Mary Christian Burleson cemetery near Elgin in which Mary and other family members are buried (see top of this posting), as well as a report on the Mary Christian Burleson homestead. I’m providing this information and these links now in this addendum to yesterday’s posting in case any readers of that posting want to explore these resources.
